Brenda is a key member of our corporate & commercial, intellectual property and TMT teams. In the IP department, she has considerable experience in multijurisdictional IP matters, where she focuses on the contentious aspects of filing and maintenance of trademarks, patents, industrial designs, utility models and copyright in Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia and Somaliland. She is experienced in filing and prosecution procedures in both regional and international registration systems such as the Madrid, ARIPO and OAPI. She also advises clients on commercial aspects of IP such as due diligence investigations, IP licensing and transfers, legal advisory on IP rights, IP litigation including domain name disputes, anti-counterfeiting investigations and raids.
In corporate and commercial, her practice involves advising clients on capital raising, business restructuring including mergers and acquisitions, business setup, tax, contracts, corporate governance, legal compliance and audits. She is also currently pursuing accreditation as a Certified Public Secretary.
Brenda has considerable experience in offering insight on legal aspects of the TMT sector including regulation, policy and compliance. She has worked on complex legal transactions and innovative commercial arrangements involving new technologies, data privacy, data protection, e-commerce, cybersecurity, outsourcing, film, music and broadcasting amongst others.
A passionate and methodical researcher & legal drafter with great analytical skills she is extensively involved in our firm’s preparation of legal opinions and submissions. Additionally, she has been involved in a number of constitutional petitions and the drafting of county legislation for some of Kenya’s counties including Bungoma, Busia, Kericho, Kisumu and Kwale.
