The African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), on 09th April, 2018, joined TMclass.
TMclass is an online database tool maintained by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) together with national authorities and was developed as part of EUIPO’s Cooperation Fund and Convergence Programme initiatives. Currently, the tool is a collaboration between a total of sixty-seven (67) national and regional IP Offices, including Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), EUIPO and Japan Patent Office (JPO).
TMclass is a free to use online tool based on the Nice Classification system that helps users correctly classify goods and services when filing a trade mark; it contains an extensive list of classification terms. It also allows users to search and translate goods and services to and from any of the forty-four (44) available languages. Further, the tool can be used to verify lists of terms to check if they are acceptable to any of the participating IP offices.
The integration of ARIPO is a concrete result of the EUIPO’s international cooperation framework in collaboration with its international partners.
