The Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning has issued a public notice on 20th February, 2020 notifying the general public of the temporary closure of the Nairobi and Central Registries from Monday 24th February, 2020 to Friday 13th March, 2020 for the purpose of conducting an audit of all land records in Nairobi.
All services offered at Ardhi House in Nairobi will not be available during this period. The services affected include:-
- Stamp duty related services: valuation, assessment, endorsement of stamp duty and franking of documents.
- Registration of instruments: including transfer of land, transfer of leases, short term leases, charge, discharge of Charge, easements, cautions, inhibitions etc.
- Banking hall and payment services.
- Official land searches.
- Issuance of consents (to transfer, charge, lease) by the Land Administration Department.
Normal activities are set to resume on Monday 16th March, 2020.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), through a letter dated 20th February, 2020, has however written to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning protesting the issuance of the said notice and demanding the immediate withdrawal of the notice failure to which the LSK will seek appropriate remedies in court.
