On 21st May 2019, Rwanda was admitted to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Centre, along with Togo and Ecuador. Rwanda is the first East African Community (EAC) member state to join the OECD Development Center.
Accepting Rwanda’s membership, Trade and Industry Minister Soraya Hakuziyaremye said Rwanda’s accession reflected its development path and will allow Rwanda to participate and contribute to evidence-based policy dialogue, in particular in reviewing and designing key policies and reforms in terms of youth employment, increasing tax base, enhancing the role of our private sector and reviewing industrial policy.
The role of the OECD Development Centre, which was established in 1961, is to help developing countries and emerging economies find innovative policy solutions to promote sustainable growth, reduce poverty and inequalities and improve people’s lives.
Rwanda becomes the 55th member of the organization.
