IMPLEMENTATION OF INCREASED OFFICIAL FEES FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) SERVICES IN ZANZIBAR

OFFICIAL FEES FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) SERVICES IN ZANZIBAR

The Zanzibar Business and Property Registration Agency (BPRA) has issued a revised fee schedule under the Zanzibar Business and Property Registration Agency (Fees and Charges) Regulations, published in the Zanzibar Government Gazette Vol. CXXXIV No. 7369 on 18 July 2025.

Effective 11 August 2025, the updated schedule introduces new official fees for a wide range of intellectual property services, including trade mark applications, renewals, assignments, and recordals.

The revised fees apply to both new and pending applications where official fees remain unpaid on or after the effective date. The amendments also introduce several new charges, such as for “association of marks” and “hearing opposition proceedings.”

We strongly encourage Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) holders and applicants to review their current and upcoming filings in Zanzibar. To avoid incurring the higher fees, it is important to settle any pending official fees before 11 August 2025.

We continue to monitor developments and remain available to assist with navigating the updated procedures. For more information on registration of IPRs in Zanzibar, please contact us at info@cfllegal.com
