Who qualifies for an Investor Permit in Kenya?

Foreigners whether alone or jointly in a partnership who intend to invest and run a specific trade, business, consultancy or profession (other than a prescribed profession) in Kenya.

What investment is required to be eligible under this permit?

The investor must provide proof of funds of at least USD 100,000 through bank statements from a local bank account in Kenya.

What are the requirements for application of this permit?

The application is done via the immigration eFNS platform, requires investors to upload some of the documents listed below;

  • Duly filled Form 25 and Form 27.
  • Cover letter from the employer/self/organization addressed to the Director of immigration.
  • Current immigration status (copies of previous permits).
  • Copy of a valid passport.
  • Two recent colored passport-size photographs of the investor.
  • Valid organization and applicant’s tax compliance certificate.
  • Local bank statement showcasing the minimum required investment amount of USD 100,000.
  • Proof of offshore transaction receipt/slip.
  • Bank verification form.
  • Certificate of Incorporation of the company.
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Company.
  • Company search (CR 12).
  • Copy of the KRA PIN Certificate of the applicant and the company.
  • Copy of the Tax Compliance Certificate of the applicant and the company.
  • Clearance letter from relevant institution (if applicable, depending on the sector of investment),
  • Security bond of at least Kshs. 100,000.00.

What costs are involved in applying for this Permit?

The costs of obtaining a Class G investor permit include an application processing fee of  Kes 20,000 , issuance fee of Kes 250,000 for a 1 year permit and a security bond of Kes 1000,000 which is obtained from an insurance company or bank.

Are there any tax incentives for holders of this permit?

Investors enjoy a wide array of tax incentives in Kenya that depend on the specific sector they invest in.
