All you need to know about Class N Digital Nomad Permit in Kenya

As digital nomad visas become more popular across the globe, Kenya joins African countries like Namibia, South Africa, Mauritius and Seychelles to invite digital nomads to the region. As of 1st October 2024, Kenya officially recognized the Class N: Digital Nomad permit, under the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Regulations, 2012 (Legal Notice No. 155).

This permit is issued to a foreigner who has been offered employment by a company based outside the country but works remotely from Kenya, or a freelancer remotely working from Kenya for a company based outside the country. This new permit opens the door for global remote professionals looking to experience Kenya’s rich culture and offers a potential pathway to long-term residency and, eventually, citizenship.

To get this permit, applicants will need to provide:

  • A valid passport;
  • Proof of remote work;
  • Verified annual income of at least USD 55,000 from sources outside Kenya;
  • Proof of accommodation in Kenya; and
  • A clean criminal record from your country of residence

Applicants should further undertake not to accept employment paid or unpaid or engage in any income-generating activities of any kind in Kenya for an employer/company domiciled in Kenya. The applicants presence in Kenya should also be of benefit to Kenya.

We anticipate that the costs and the duration of this permit will be provided in a subsequent publication.
